OTR Year-End Ride 2023

Another great year end ride by OTR. This year-end ride has become an annual favourite amongst the Woessies and is always a great event. The route to Magalies and back is never 100% the same and combines gravel and single track as far as possible.

This year there was a choice between a 100km and a 75km ride and the pace is basically decided by the group on the day. This year was a bit more relaxed with an overall ave pace of +/- 18km/h and total elevation gain of +/- 1200m for the 100km distance.

On the way back you have 2 options of getting back to Krugersdorp … 1. up Sterkies or 2. up “Alpe D’Poop” – sewerage farm climb. We mostly agree on the Poop climb. This segment is called “Sewerage Climb” as it passes the sewerage farm which is normally quite “smelly” …. the segment is 2,42km long with 142m of climbing at 5.9% – according to Strava …. a nice little challenge at the end of a long ride.

Well done the guys on the gravel bikes for handeling the rocky single track sections, hope your teeth are not too sensitive the day after.

Congrats to Ozzie on that new handle bar about to be fitted to Santa, luckily no hospital time over new-year for you.

All in all a very lekker ride to look forward to at the end of the year.
